Weatherford, Carole Boston Gordon Parks : How the Photographer Captured Black and White America, illustrations by Jamey Christoph. NON FICTION. Albert Whitman & Company, 2015. $16.99. Content: G.
As a young schoolboy, Gordon Parks’ teacher said he’s wind up as a waiter or a porter. At age 25, he was struggling to get by and bought a camera which changed everything. Moving to Washington D.C. Parks turned his focus to photographing the conditions in the black community, showing racism and inequity in our nation’s capital and our country.
This biography is simply told and well illustrated, and would make a good introduction to a longer study. It is, sadly, missing any source material, links to Park’s work, or sources for further reading.
