This book includes information about what earthquakes are, how a richter scale works, and many famous earthquakes and their aftermaths. It features subdued illustrations.
This series is still popular with teachers because of its simple explanations for younger students. This one reads fairly grim though, with its illustrations of crying people, fires, tsunamis, and reports of death tolls. Don’t get me wrong, that’s half the reason that kids find natural disasters so fascinating but this text reads for K-2 so that gets pretty intense. I am a big fan of photographs for this kind of book, these illustrations just give this book a dated feel.
