Boyd, Colin. The Bath Monster, PICTURE BOOK. Andersen Press USA, 2016. A mother convinces her small son to take a bath each night with the threat of the “Bath Monster.” The Bath Monster feeds on the dirt and grime of bathers. If he doesn’t get his nightly meal, he has to find something else to eat. When the boy decides that he doesn’t believe in the Bath Monster anymore and doesn’t take a bath for the night, then the Bath Monster comes to find him. I could see this being a really unsettling book for a little kid. The Bath Monster is depicted as a pretty frightening creature and there isn’t some fun twist at the end. It just seems like the boy gets eaten. Likely too scary for young readers and not quite unique enough for older ones. K-3- OPTIONAL. Reviewed by Shay, High School Librarian
