Vojtech, Anna. Surprise in the Meadow, PICTURE BOOK. Holiday House, 2016. $16.95. Little Chipmunk has awoken from his winter hibernation. He goes to search for the seeds he buried before his rest but finds a sprout instead. He watches the weather help his sprout grow through the seasons until a sunflower blooms. In the end, the seeds from the flower scatter again and the cycle starts over as Chipmunk has a bite to eat and then buries the rest. This was a really simple look at the life cycle of a plant. The pictures aren’t terrible, but they’re not amazing either. I think it is a good example to use for preschoolers when talking about a plant life cycle because of the basic language.
