Oliver, Lin and Baker, Theo Sound Bender, 272 pgs. Scholastic Press, 2011. $11.55. Language-G, Violence-G; Sexual Content-G.
Leo and his younger brother Hollis are living with their uncle Crane, a shady businessman. Leo constantly thinks about his parents who recently died/went missing and when a disc is dropped off with some last words from his father –the adventure begins. Leo notices that he is having strange experiences when he touches objects, as if events are imprinted on them, and he can hear experience those events. When his best friend Trevor is let in on the secret, the two of them stumble upon an item in Uncles Cranes collection that will require them to take action.
My favorite part of this book is Leo’s fascination with sound. The authors do a excellent job with creating memorable characters, vivid settings, and a foundation for further intrigue. Some of the plot elements are a bit over the top, like Uncle Crane being such an obvious shady guy, but overall an entertaining and interesting! I am really hoping the hints in the plot lead to further books.
