Always Neverland |
Barton, Zoe Always Neverland, 320 p. Harper, OCTOBER 2011. $16.
Content: G.
Ashley is set to have a disastrous Christmas vacation – her friends are all gone and her parents don’t seem to have a single minute to spare her – not even to pick out a Christmas – something they promised wouldn’t happen on Christmas Eve this year. When Peter Pan appears in her room looking for his shadow – again – Ashley is more than full of happy thoughts at the prospect of flying away for a few days. And she doesn’t intend to be the Lost Boys’ mother – oh no, she has never been that kind of a girl. Instead she plans on making friends with the mermaids, with Tiger Lily and taking down Hook on her very own. Ashley is definitely very different from all of the other “Wendy-girls” who have visited Neverland over the years. The question is – will her mark be for the good, or while she touch Neverland in more destructive ways?
Barton goes right back to the charm of Neverland and updates the heroine into someone a modern girl can understand and empathize with. This book is absolutely adorable. Put this on top of your list of fun, clean books!
