Ant and Grasshopper by Luli Gray--ADVISABLE
Gray, Luli. Ant and Grasshopper, illustrated by Giuliano Ferri. Margaret K. McElderry Books (Simon & Schuster), 2011. PICTURE BOOK. A kinder retelling of the fable “The Ant in the Grasshopper.” Like the fable, Ant works very hard to store enough food for winter, while the Grasshopper plays and sings. When winter comes Grasshopper asks Ant to let him stay. Ant says no. Later in the winter Ant has a dream and when he wakes up he decides to take Grasshopper in. He nurses Grasshopper back to health and together they sing and dance. The illustrations have a soft hue and the characters are anthropomorphic and engaging. EL – ADVISABLE.
