The Hunt of the Unicorn by C.C. Humphreys - ADVISABLE

Humphreys, C.C.  The Hunt of the Unicorn, 352 p. Knopf (Random), 2011.  $17.

Violence: PG.

As a small child, Elayne loved the family bedtime story – that one of her ancestors stepped through a tapestry into a world of mythical creature and then his daughter escaped great evil by coming back.  But that was so long ago, and her father is so sick and she is so alone – how can such a thing be real?  But then Elayne sees the tapestry with her own eyes, and she feels a call – the call of a unicorn.  And with a slight mishap, Elayne is through and on the other side.  The danger is no less, the beasts are as fantastic and Elayne must either become wise enough and strong enough or her life, the mystical beasts’ lives and her own world are all going to be in jeopardy.

Please, please, please don’t make this a series.  I would be so happy if this is just a great single work.  The plotting drew me along – whether you like unicorns or danger, it won’t matter.
