This book follows the path of one red bicycle as it is cherished by many owners. Its starts off with a deserving boy in the United States, after he outgrows it, he finds out about a donation program that ships books off to Africa. So off the bike goes, but its journey in Africa is so much more than it was in the US, as it aids a young girl to improve the life of her farming family, and aids a community as a makeshift ambulance. Featuring large bright pages and simple harmonious illustrations.
The big lesson here is donation, reuse and recycle, and improving the world. This would make an excellent read-aloud for upper elementary students for Earth day and more. I liked that a single child and his decision could steamroll into such a big positive effect. What a great way to show children that they really do have the power to change the world.
