Tycho and his family have been caught up in a struggle between the Jovian Union and the rebellious Ice Wolves. They have even been conscripted into battle, with the threat of losing their privateer license held over them! In the meantime, ancient tales of a lost pirate treasure seem to be tantalizingly real and the Hashoone family might just be onto something. Tycho is getting in a bit over his head as he deals with a shadowy figure and keeps it from his family. Family secrets are revealed and Tycho must cope with what it means to be honest or a pirate.
An exciting second book with its inclusion of the big lost treasure, it’s a great read. I sort of felt like character development was left a bit to the wayside though as this book is very plot heavy. Even more so than the first book, complexity of plot happens even faster. I was even a bit lost at times with all the politics and history references. With a little bit of swearing by the salty grandfather, this book is definitely a better choice for middle school readers. Throw in an angsty romance and high school might enjoy too.
