Candau, Brittany. Ill. By Cory Godbey, Cinderella. Disney Hyperion, 2015. $16.99. PICTURE BOOK
When her mother dies, Cinderella
promised that she would always be loving and kind. After her father remarried
Lady Tremaine, he left to pay her debts and passed away as well. Forced to work
for her evil step-family, Cinderella never gave up hope. After getting invited
to the Prince’s ball, she tries to mend her mom’s dress, only to have her
stepsisters destroy it. Her kindness towards an old lady leads to a fairy
godmother helping her to attend the ball and the rest is history. Here is her
story.
The illustrations in this book are
beautifully done. Vivid and detailed, they complement well the text. The text
uses rhythm and rhyme in a unique, subtle way that is easy to follow and helps
to bring the story to life. Readers who enjoy the movies or the book of this
classic fairytale will enjoy reading this book. PreK, EL (K-3). ADVISABLE. Reviewer:
