Hudson, Katy Bear and Duck. $17.99. HarperCollins
Publishers, 2015. Picture Book. Content:
G. Bear was like most bears, except that he didn't enjoy being a bear one bit. He
didn't like sleeping in the winter, he got hot in the summer and was tired of
angry bees. One day, he simple decided the was no longer going to be a bear. As
he watched a line of happy yellow ducks, he decided he not only could be a
duck, he wanted to be a duck! Duck helped Bear prepare to become a duck by
helping him learn to build a nest, swim, fly (well at least he attempted it),
but it didn't take long before Bear realized that he wasn't going to be good at
being a duck at all. Duck then showed Bear all of the things he was good at.
Bear decided being a bear wasn't so bad after all, and in the process, he had
found a really good friend! This was a sweet book that will be loved by many.
The illustrations are adorable. The story is heartwarming. The book could be
used in a unit on friendship or perseverance. Pre-K. EL (K-3). ADVISABLE.
