The Fly by Petr Horacek- ESSENTIAL

Horacek, Petr The Fly. Candlewick Press, 2015. $14.99. Picture Book.  Content: G.

Flies are most definitely a nuisance, but in this adorable book, the reader begins to see life from the fly’s perspective.  The fly is simply minding its own business when a little boy with a fly swatter attempts to swat him.  Even on the ceiling the fly isn't safe. When he escapes the house and goes out to the horses, the horses swat at him with their tails.  The fly is doing no harm, or so he thinks, so why is everyone being so mean?

The end of the book has a cute twist that will have little ones laughing.  A few of the pages are cut out in the shape of fly swatters and give this picture book a unique edge.  The illustrations are fun and bold.  The pages are made of heavy card stock for durability.  We really enjoyed this story and the unique perspective if gives a common fly!
