Van Slyke, Rebecca. Mom
School, PICTURE BOOK. Doubleday Books for Young Readers, 2015. $16.99. One
little girl imagines how her mom became so good at being her mom. By attending
Mom School of course! At mom school, moms learn how to bait a fish hook, throw
a pitch so kids can hit it, read stories, and tuck you into bed at night. This
is a really sweet story with a great mix of activities that moms learn how to
perfect. I really liked that there was a solid mix of things that moms can do
that weren’t gender stereotypes. I thought it was wonderful that the mom was
the child’s ideal parent and that she thought she was doing everything just
right. It’s a fun premise for a story for both parents and children to imagine.
