Krall, Dan The Great
Lollipop Caper Simon and Schuster,
2013. $16.99 PICTURE BOOK
Content: G.
A caper, although
appreciated by adults for his pickled taste, is jealous of the lollipop because
he wants kids to like him. The caper
goes to the lollipop factor and turns all the lollipop flavors to caper. When the little kids get a hold of the caper lollipop
it makes them naughty and sour (like the flavor of a caper) instead of sweat
(like the normal lollipop). Caper
realizes that he needs to appreciate the love adults have for him, and let the
lollipop be sweet so kids will be sweet.
This is a humorous story about a jealous caper. The illustrations are bright and super
animated (the little caper is adorable in his grumpiness). My boys and I enjoyed the story. It was creative and different in a good
way. I did have to explain what a caper
is to my kids.

I found the students to be confused by the caper thing also. Without knowing what they taste like much of the plot of the story is lost on them. (And the cuteness of the title).
