Baxter, John Disney
during World War II, 174 p. Disney Editions, 2014. $40.
Content: G.
When America entered
World War II, Disney threw its heart and soul into supporting the war
effort. Training films, patriotic
appeals, full-out efforts to induce Americans to support the effort, insignia
for battle units – Disney’s entire operation contributed. I don’t think even hard-core Disney-philes
understand the full scope of Disney’s involvement in the war effort.
The sheer amount of detail included in the
book is impressive. The only thing I
wish they had included is a DVD with some of the footage or at least a link to
a passworded website. The drawings and
storyboards are just teasers.
An excellent book for any class that teaches about World War
II, propaganda, or movie-making.
