King III Martin Luther My Daddy, Dr. Martin
Luther King Jr 32 pgs, HarperCollins, 2013. $15.99 PICTURE BOOK/NON-FICTION
Here we see the perspective of one of Martin Luther King Jr’s
sons, Marty. Marty was only 10 when his father was killed, but he shares his
memories about his famous and influential father. Marty and his siblings had to
endure his father getting arrested numerous times, they marched in peaceful protests
with him, and they learned powerful life lessons. Although I didn’t receive the final edition to review, the artwork is wonderful, with large colorful pages, easy for sharing. I sort of hoped to read more about Dr. King the dad, but this book was heavy on the civil rights movement. I wanted to know if he made pancakes, or had silly nicknames for his children, sort of normal dad stuff. While he obviously related some amazing life lessons to his children, there isn’t much personal stuff related in this book.
