Bilby: Secrets of an Australian Marsupial by Edel Wignell –OPTIONAL

Wignell, Edel Bilby: Secrets of an Australian Marsupial 32 pgs, Candlewick,2015. $16.99 PICTURE BOOK/NON-FICTION
Here the readers follows the life of a Bilby, which is an endangered marsupial that only lives in Australian. Its rodent like, but has some differences, including a tail with a horney spur, and of course, a pouch to raise its young in. The bilby in this story is raising her baby, creating burrows, running from predators, and finding food. As her baby grows up we follow him as he gets more independent. As the story progresses we learn many interesting facts.
This is a book that could be added to your animals collection, it has plenty of information and adorable illustrations. That being said, it is an obscure animal, I don’t even think I have all the better known animals of Australia in my collection. However, I really do prefer science books with actual photographs, I think they are more engaging. Also younger students have a more challenging time determining fact from fiction when there is only artwork representations.
