Burcaw, Shane Laughing at My Nightmare, 248 pgs. Roaring Brook Press, 2014. $17.99. NON FICTION Language: R (49 swears 36 Fs); Violence: G; Mature Content: R.
Shane Burcaw, blogger and non-profit founder, tells the story of his life in this autobiography. Diagnosed with SMA (spinal muscular atrophy) as an infant, he puts a humorous spin on many of the problems and situations associated with being wheelchair bound his whole life. From having to rely on someone else for practically everything, to his few attempts at independence, Burcaw puts his signature “look on the brightside” attitude as he tells the whole story.
Too indelicate for a school library, with very mature content in places (sex and bathroom issues) and a great number of F bombs, still the message was great.
