Just a Duck? By Carin Bramsen –ADVISABLE

Bramsen, Carin Just a Duck? 40 pgs, Random House Books for Young Readers,2015. $16.99 PICTURE BOOK
Duck, a little duckling, is determined to be a cat when he grows up. He is still too little to grow ear and claws. His friend Cat is confused but willing to play cat games with Duck. After a mishap with chasing leaves, Duck must use his innate duck talents to save Cat and accept himself.
I am sort of torn on this one, I like the message of self-acceptance, but then again, why shouldn’t children use their imagination and play pretend? The rhyming is fun and lyrical. The illustrations are pretty cute and I think the back and forth dialogue in different fonts is interesting.
