Novak, B.J. The Book with No Pictures. PICTURE BOOK. Dial Books for Young Readers, 2014. $17.99. Content: G.
It's true: this book has no pictures. What it does have are interesting fonts, and silly words, and text that makes the reader say things they would never actually say in real life -- things that will have listeners laughing out loud throughout.
This book is hilarious, and it captures children's sense of humor well. It's perfect for a read-aloud -- and, in fact, seems to be written specifically for it. One caveat: readers should practice it first in order to master the individual voices and made-up words; it's worth the extra time. Highly recommended, especially for readers who can make fun of themselves in order to let children enjoy a good joke.
