Monir, Alexandra Suspicion, 295 p. Delacorte (Random),
2015. $18.
When Imogen was young, she used to visit her
father’s ancestral home in England every summer – until the year her parents
and her aunt and uncle died in a horrible fire.
Now she is seventeen and she hasn’t been back, not even to visit her
remaining cousin, Lucia. Then she finds
out that her guardians have been intercepting all communication from the
estate. Lucia is dead and Imogen is the
new Duchess. She is needed back in
England, and she feels drawn to it – she always has. Not only does the only boy she’s ever loved
wait for her in England, but a mystery that involves death and magic is also
waiting to be solved.
Monir is so good at modern gothic novels. The purple hedges are just one little bit of
interesting setting that I thoroughly enjoyed.
I am very excited to share this with my patrons!
