Crystal Cadets by Anne Toole –NO

Toole, Anne Crystal Cadets 128 pgs. Roar Comics, 2015. $12.99 Content: Language: G (0 swears); Mature Content: G Violence: G GRAPHIC NOVEL
After Zoe is given a crystal that belonged to her birth mother, she is quickly caught up in a new life that is both scary and wonderful. It turns out that she is a crystal cadet, one of a few girls who is in charge of battling darkness. Using their crystal powers these girls can vanquish darkness and fly on magical steeds. But some of them are yet undiscovered, so the girls start the search for the new crystal cadets, while the darkness grows.
I just wanted to put it out there that I REALLY wanted to like this book. First off, there aren’t enough great graphic novels for girls, secondly I am pretty obsessed with crystals and gems. This book didn’t quite fit the bill: it was extremely fast paced, super confusing plot and with many characters that looked a lot alike, and it had a sailor moon vibe that felt very unoriginal. It almost reminded me if someone took photographs of their TV/Computer while an anime was playing then added talk bubbles to it, giving a very choppy and awkward feel. This book doesn’t provide any chance to get to know any of the characters or their world, would have been better to chop this one into maybe 8 books.
