Four little ducklings are excited about their first day of school, but the fifth one cries, thinking how much he'll miss mama duck. When his four siblings start getting sad too, mama duck kisses them on the head, reassures them, and leads them to school. Fun activities fill their day, and by the end, they have missed their mama, but had fun too.

Told in rhyming couplets, this story features incredibly cute little ducklings in hats going to school with other baby animals, all wearing adorable school-uniform ties. However, the fact that they play all day with blocks, trucks, toys, games, slides, and paints, and still declare storytime the best of all, feels a little forced even to me, and I love storytime. Still, it would work well for collections needing more books about kids starting school, or better yet, preschool.
