This picture book features five Scottish children as they experience the various events of the twelve months of the year...examples include Burns’ Night, Beef Harahi, Stovies, First Foot, Black Bun, Bass rock puffins, and more.
Adorable artwork but much of the interesting 'unique to Scotland' type of things are named but not explained, which is zero help to a young reader. One good example of this is a tiny picture with an arrow that labels the item as crisps. Student readers are NOT going to know that’s a potato chip. Also its an entire book about one countries children, would a library buy an entire series of every single country? I must say I prefer a single book that compares lives of say 5 different children in 5 different countries.
