O'Byrne, Nicola Use Your Imagination. Nosy Crow (Candlewick Press), 2015. $15.99. PICTURE BOOK
Little rabbit is bored. When wolf comes along and suggests writing a story, professing to know all about stories because he's a librarian, little rabbit isn't immediately convinced. He notices wolf's big ears and big eyes and recognizes something familiar in wolf's responses. Nevertheless, wolf is able to move forward with the story idea. As they discuss the beginning, characters, costumes, and setting, wolf repeatedly reminds rabbit to use his imagination, though he shoots down most of rabbit's ideas. When the story is finally ready to begin, wolf starts chasing rabbit. But rabbit doesn't like the way the story is going, so he uses his imagination to make an ending to his own liking.
This is a cute, light-hearted story about story elements where the characters move smoothly from talking about a story to being in it.
