Most Wonderful Thing in the World
Illustrated by Angel Barrett Candlewick Press, 2015. $18.99
PICTURE BOOK Content: G.
A king and queen adore their daughter,
Princess Lucia, and after raising her in a protected small kingdom, they realize
that she needs to marry. They write a
wise man to ask him the best way to go about finding her a husband and the wise
man tells them to find a young man who
can show them the most wonderful thing in the world. While many suitors come to impress the king
and the queen, Lucia is about the kingdom with a nice man named Salvatore. When Salvatore finds out that she is a
princess he is heartbroken, until he realizes that he can show the king and
queen the most wonderful thing in the world—their daughter Princess Lucia.
This sweet story emphasizes what is most
precious in the world-our family. The
magical illustrations are very detailed and beautiful, sometimes telling a
story parallel to the written one. The
fairy tale story is fun if not a bit predictable. The only warning might be that it is there are a lot of words per page spread which might
discourage younger readers.
