Kieran knows what it takes to fit in with the cool boys at school, even at the cost of bullying his cousin Bon, who is new to the school. Kieran, who has been having a wonderful childhood, is having a hard to time understanding why his cousin Bon, who has had a terrible childhood, is so weird. Even worse, Bon easily becomes good friends with a girl that Kieran would like to get to know better. Will anything be able to break Kieran out of his mindset?
I thought this was a great read, from the perspective of a good kid caught up in a bullying mindset. (I think it’s a media cliché that all bullies are just repeating their bad home life at school). The author does a great job of creating a gradual breakdown of that selfish childhood ego and weaving in some well-rounded characters.
