Jones, Val. Who Wants Broccoli?, PICTURE BOOK. Harper, 2015. $17.99. Content: G. Broccoli the dog lives at the Beezley’s Animal Shelter. There are all kinds of animals there waiting to be taken home and loved. Broccoli watches the people come in and out all day long. He shows off his best trick of catching his water bowl on his head. He shows how fast he can run by chasing his tail in his cage. And barks at all the noises that he hears in the shop. This doesn’t always make it seem like Broccoli is going to be the best pet. When a new neighbor moves in across the street, Broccoli can’t wait to meet him, but he makes a big mess and is banished to the back room. Eventually the neighbor comes to the shelter and Broccoli saves the day to get his attention. Broccoli finally finds at good friend to go home with. This book is very cute. The pictures are bright and engaging and I love the premise that everyone has someone else out there waiting to love them. Even when someone is a little bit messy or might not seem like a good match at first, there is always someone else waiting to befriend them. PRE-K, EL (K-3)- ADVISABLE.
