Villeneuve, Anne Loula and the Sister Recipe. Kids
Can Press, 2014. $16.95. Picture Book.
Content: G. Loula has triples brothers who enjoy their time together
playing pirates and other imaginary games.
When Loula asks if she can join her brothers, the answer is always, “NO!” Loula wishes desperately for a sister so that
she too will have a permanent playmate. She
asks her parents to please make her a sister.
“Oh! Ahem…” says mother. “Making
a sister is like making a cake. You have
to have the right ingredients.” says father.
“Like what?” asks Loula. As list
of various items such as butterflies, a full moon and a candlelit dinner are
mentioned, Loula makes a mental note not to forget any of them. The journey to “make a sister” begins by
gathering the necessary ingredients with the help of a very confused family
chauffeur . The story is sweet, sentimental and very entertaining. Little ones will love the surprise
ending. The illustrations are unique and
inviting. This is a fun book celebrating
family, imagination and life.
