My Leaf Book by Monica Wellington - ADVISABLE

Wellington, Monica.  My Leaf Book.  Dial Books for Young Readers (Penguin), 2015.  $16.99.  PICTURE BOOK.

A little girl shares her love of fall leaves with the reader.  She collects leaves to put in her leaf book.  She uses her Tree Guide to identify each leaf by its shape.  She finds a ginkgo leaf, sweet gum tree leaf, honey locust leaf, oak leaf, etc.  She also highlights the different colors of fall leaves.  The author gives small blurbs of factual information about trees and leafs at the bottom of various pages.  At the end of the book there is a page of leaf projects for more leaf fun.  The author/illustrator used real leaves to create the prints and rubbings for illustrations as described in the leaf projects.  She also used mixed media collages and painted papers to create a unique style that combines well with the traditional cartoon illustrations.
