This book contains two short stories, one from a little girl’s perspective and one from a little animal’s perspective. The little girl just thinks she is rescuing a little beast in need and taking it home to care for it. While the little animal thinks he has been taken away by a big beast and forced to eat squirrel food and wear clothes. Both of them find a way to friendship in the end.
First off the illustrations are ADORABLE, a surprise since this publisher has earned my all time top award for terrible artwork. The story itself isn’t quite that interesting to me (though it made me want to re-read Children Make Terrible Pets, which is hilarious), but the lesson about perspective would be an incredibly useful concept for younger readers. I would add this to my collection just for that reason alone, and probably show it off to the school counselor as well.
