8 An Animal Alphabet by Elisha Cooper -OPTIONAL

Cooper, Elisha. 8 An Animal Alphabet, PICTURE BOOK. Orchard Books, 2015. $17.99. Each letter of the alphabet is demonstrated by corresponding animals that begin with that letter. Each letter is pictured with these animals and one is repeated on the page 8 times. All of the animal names are listed on the bottom of the page. The pictures are really well done. There are some unique animals and it is fun to try to find them all. There is a listing about each animal at the end of the book, with a fact about each one. There are some lesser known animals in the book and because the animal names are listed at the bottom, instead of labeled next to each picture, it was difficult to know which animal was which on some pages. I also didn’t like that on some pages, specific whales were named for letters, yet there was a generic “whale” for “W.” That didn’t make sense to me. Content: G. EL (K-3) -OPTIONAL.
