Frost, Helen Applesauce Weather 103 pgs. Candlewick Press, 2016. $14.99. Language: G (0 swears); Mature Content: G; Violence: PG (how I lost my finger stories)
When the first apple falls of the tree, Peter and Faith await the arrival of their great-uncle Arthur. They’ve always wondered how Uncle Arthur lost half of his right index finger, but every time they ask, he tells them another fantastic story that is certainly not true. But this time, maybe they will hear the true story.
Written in free verse, this extra quick read is reminiscent of fall days and storytelling. I’m not a great fan (anymore) of books in verse, and this one felt - not poetic at all. The story was sweet, the illustrations were great, but the verse left me flat.
