Night World by L. J. Smith - ADVISABLE

Smith, L.J. Night World (Night World 1), 238 pages.  Simon, 1996, 2016.  $14.  Language: PG-13 (24 swears, 0 ‘f’).

Summer vacation is just starting and Poppy has just found out that she has terminal cancer.  Despondant, she doesn’t know how to act, until her best friend, James, offers her a way out – become a vampire like him.
Welcome back to Night World.  Published almost ten years before Twilight was a thing – there are no sparkly vampires here.  Instead, we have vampires, werewolves, and witches keeping their secrets from the human world – while some of them would rather use the humans as food and fodder.

I wish I hadn’t just bought the omnibus editions (3-in-1 books) for the series.  I am glad to see these in hardback – I do find it kind of odd that the covers are rather dull, though.  Hopefully the students will see their way past that.
Previously published as Secret Vampire
