McCully, Emily Arnold. Pete Likes Bunny, PICTURE. Holiday House, 2017. $14.95. There is a new bunny in Pete’s class and he really likes her. He thinks about her and stares at her all the time. When he sits next to Bunny on the bus, all the other kids catch on and start teasing him about how he likes her. Pete is devastated and his mom suggests he take Bunny some flowers. When he does, she brings him cookies at the same time and they find that they both like one another. The class still teases them, but it doesn’t bother them because it’s the truth. I wasn’t feeling this book. I think the topic is overdone in much of our children’s everyday lives already (i.e. TV shows, movies, commercials). There are so many other subjects that can be covered in these early reader-type picture books. EL- OPTIONAL. Reviewed by Shay, School Librarian
