Nolan, Janet Seven
and a Half Tons of Steel Illustrated by
Thomas Gonzalez PICTURE BOOK Peachtree,
2016. $17.95 Content: G.
When the twin towers went down, one of the
large metal beams was taken to Louisiana and smelted into a bow for a navy ship called the U.S.S.
New York. The building was interrupted
at one point by Hurricane Katrina, but when it was completed it was taken to New
York. The ship and the crew faced ground
zero and had a 21 gun salute.
This is an
emotional read but it is done well. The
history behind USS New York is fascinating and at the back there is extra
information about the ship and the crest of the ship. The illustrations are fantastic.
