Antsy Ansel by Cindy Jenson-Elliott - ESSENTIAL

Jenson-Elliott, Cindy  Antsy Ansel: Ansel Adams, A Life in Nature  Illustrated by Christy Hale  PICTURE BOOK  Christy Ottaviano Books, 2016 (Henry Holt and Company).  $17.99  Content: G.

Ansel was a young boy with lots of energy.  Disregarding the teachers and principal who wanted Ansel to be disciplined, Ansel’s father took him out of school and taught him from home.  Ansel had a love of a nature and a desire to learn.  After a trip to Yosemite, Ansel feel in love with the beautiful park and returned in all weather and at all times of the year to capture it’s beauty.  Ansel was commissioned by the government to take pictures and hired by Life magazine.  He is now recognized as a famous photographer.

The illustrations throughout this story are amazing.  I love the way the author gave the story a rhythm and explained in a simple way how important Ansel Adam’s pictures are to our nation.  There is more information about Adams located at the back of the book including a few pictures.  This would be a fun way to introduce Adams in a photography or art class.
