The Poet's Dog by Patricia MacLachlan - ADVISABLE

MacLachlan, Patricia  The Poet’s Dog, 88 pgs.  CHAPTER BOOK  Katherine Tegen Books, 2016.  $14.99  Content: G.

Nickel and Flora are a brother and sister that get lost in a snow storm, but they are found and taken to a remote cabin by Teddy.  Teddy is a sweet Irish wolfhound who has recently lost his beloved owner who was a poet.  Teddy’s poet owner always explained to Teddy that true poets would be able to hear Teddy talk and Nickel and Flora are able to here Teddy.  The ragtag group wait out the storm and hope to be able to stay together once they are rescued.

This is a sweet story with a great setting and characters that are quickly made endearing.  I’m not even a dog lover and I loved Teddy.  The story is simple and easy to read and heartwarming.  The only part that is kind of upsetting is that Teddy's owner gets sick and passes away which is sad but not graphic at all.
