This book features tons of factual information about why place value is important, how it works and the history of it. It starts with a comparison of how letters can be a letter and word, just a number can be digit and a word. The story that goes along is told in pictures and some speech bubbles, is a group of monkeys trying to open their own café, so baking and cash registers lends itself well to working with numbers and place value. Bright and large pages.
This is a fun book that features a ton of information. I think teachers will enjoy this book as a part of a lesson on place value. It would have been even better if there were stops for monkeys to figure out problems (that the students could have figured out) and a bit less text, but still a fun way to introduce or create a unit on this curriculum topic.
