La Farge, Phyllis The Pancake King, illustrated by Seymour
Chwast. PICTURE BOOK. Princeton Architectural Press, 2016. $18.95. Content: G.
Henry Edgewood loves pancakes and makes them three times a
day. With the help of Jinker Enterprises he becomes known as the famous Pancake
King and travels the country making pancakes. But Henry begins to miss his
family and friends and eventually tires of making pancakes. He’ll have to
choose if he wants to continue being the Pancake King.
The story in this
picture book is cute but far too wordy to make it an excellent read-aloud. The
pictures are exceptionally bright, but done in a quirky style that will not
appeal to all readers. The recipe for Henry's pancakes is included at the end
of the book.
PRE-K, EL-K3 – OPTIONAL. Reviewer: TC
