This book describes what living fossils are and why they might be so similar to their ancient ancestors. There are six different creatures featured with their lives in the ancient past and their lives now. Included are Coelacanth, Horseshoe Crab, Dragonflies, Tuatara, Chambered Nautilus, and the Hula Painted Frog. Illustrated with large bright harmonious pictures.
This is another book where photographs would have gone a long ways with helping students to see fossilized remains, and realizing the modern day version is STILL alive. Some arrows and diagrams would have been nice, for example the Tuartara is a lizard with a third eye! Student readers would love to get a look at that! The cover isn’t very appealing but I bet some teachers would be interested in using this as a lesson resource.
