Brett, Jan Fritz and
the Beautiful Horses G.P. Putnam’s Sons,
2016. $17.99 PICTURE BOOK
Content: G.
Fritz is a shaggy
pony that plays outside the walls of a village known for its beautiful
horses. Fritz wishes that kids would
ride on his back, but whenever he approaches the town, the townspeople mock his
looks. One day when the bridge breaks
and separates the parents from their children, Fritz saves the day by
transporting the children across the raging river (something the beautiful
horses weren’t willing to do). He is
acknowledged for his hard work and courage and the townspeople love him.
Jan Brett has fantastic illustrations. This book has a good moral to the story: that
courage, kindness and hard work matter more than vanity. If you have a horse lover, this is a good
story for them and the horse illustrations won’t disappoint.
