Lloyd, Natalie The Key to Extraordinary, 240 pgs. Scholastic Press, 2016. $16.99. Content: PG.
Emma comes from a long line of extraordinary women, all of whom have discovered their destinies during a pivotal dream. But when Emma finally has her own dream, she learns she must achieve the unachievable: find a long-buried treasure that will save her town. Is it possible to fail one's own destiny?
The Key to Extraordinary is a lovely example of Southern magical realism, with its eccentric characters; beautiful language; honest -- and often humorous -- voice; lush setting; and touches of both the whimsical and mystical. The high stakes and suspense make it hard to put down, and the enticing cover is likely to attract readers.
