Victricia Malicia: Book-Loving Buccaneer by Carrie Clickard –OPTIONAL

Clickard, Carrie Victricia Malicia: Book-Loving Buccaneer Flashlight Press, 2012. $16.95 PICTURE BOOK
Victricia Malicia was raised a pirate ship, but she just isn’t very good at being a pirate, in fact she doesn’t like it at all and wants to live on land and read more books. The crew tries to convince her, but she convinces them with her mistakes, costing the crew their treasure. When the ship is in danger, will she choose to be a pirate?
This is not a book for beginning readers, even I had a hard time with some of the pirate words. I wish, more than anything, that this book wasn’t told in rhyme. It doesn’t really work out that well, with pirate words, and the flow is choppy. I just want it to be a story. The illustrations are stunning and adorable.  There was a love of books promoted, which is great, but I have to be honest here –I think most kids would think Victricia would be crazy to not want to be a pirate.
