Oxlade, Chris Inside
Battleships (Inside Military Machines) 32 pgs. Hungry Tomatoes (Lerner),
2017. $20.
This
book goes through the history of battleships from the ancient Egyptians to Medieval
warships to Ironclads and ending with those of today. Lots of detailed facts
are given about each type of ship and its weapons, including specific battles
and outcomes. There are cutaways and inside looks at many of the ships. This
book is stuffed with illustrations, paintings, and photographs.
I
think upper grade students would love digging into all the details this book
has to offer. I would recommend having one set for younger readers –who are
always very interested this topic and this set for older readers. I really
liked that there was a large amount of historical facts –students will enjoy
all the visuals and interesting facts. My only complaint is the size of the pages,
this book would really stand out if the pages were larger, more like DK size.
