Twohy, Mike Mouse and Hippo. PICTURE BOOK. Simon
and Schuster, 2017. $17.99. Content: G.
Mouse is an artist. He accidentally sets up his painting easel right on top of Hippo who is resting in the water. When Hippo moves, Mouse topples over and he and all of his painting supplies fall into the lake. Mouse can’t swim and Hippo saves him from drowning. Hippo feels horrible. Mouse knows it’s really his own fault because he should have been more careful about what he was doing. As a way of showing his appreciation for saving his life, Mouse offers to paint a portrait of Hippo for his home. In a surprising twist, Mouse and Hippo not only paint each other’s portraits, but become good friends.
This story started off a little slow but by the end we were laughing and loving the plot. The illustrations are very detailed and creative. We enjoyed this book.
