The Glass Spare by Lauren Destefano - ADVISABLE

Destefano, Lauren The Glass Spare, 402 pages.  Balzer + Bray (Harper), 2017.  $18.

Language: G; Mature Content: G; Violence: PG-13 (vicious fighting).

Wil, 15,  may be the daughter of a king, but because she was cursed at birth, she is kept hidden from the public and used by the king as a tool for espionage.  She is beloved by her oldest brother, the heir, and by her other genius inventor brother, but despised by the spare.  When her curse manifests her life is ruined in a spectacular, awful way, and her father banishes her forever.  Now she must make her own way in the world and find a way to break a curse that doesn’t allow her to touch anything living.

Destefano’s range of voice is amazing.  Now she enters solid fantasy with the Glass Spare.  In a genre with so many classic entries, she has still managed to create a unique situation that will resonate with teenagers of many stripes.
