Maddie has been betrayed and left alone, which is great for
practicing the skills that her father, a Secret Service agent, has taught her
but not so great for finding friends. Before they moved to the middle of
nowhere in Alaska, Maddie had a friend, Logan—the President’s only son—but he
has long since proven that he was never really Maddie’s friend. Now Logan is in
danger and if Maddie wants to hurt Logan for all the hurt she has felt from his
betrayal, first she has to make sure that he isn’t killed.
I found the premise of this story exciting, especially with
a strong and intelligent heroine capable of doing hard things. Maddie is a
lovable character who thinks on her feet in unexpected ways that left me both
wanting to be like her and laughing at her antics. I expected Maddie’s story to
focus more on the internal conflict and principle of forgiveness than it did,
but Carter wrote a fun action story that kept me on the edge of my seat. Also,
I would like to give a shout out to Carter because she had ample opportunities
to throw swear words into the story she wrote but did not, and I am grateful
for a curse-free story to read.
