Vango: Between Sky and Earth by Timothee de Fombelle - ESSENTIAL

Fombelle, Timothee de  Vango: Between Sky and Earth, 421 pgs.  Candlewick Press, 2013.  $17.99  Content: Language: PG (3 swears); Violence: PG-13; Mature Content: PG.

Vango is about to become a priest, but his ceremony is interrupted by the police who are there to accuse Vango of murder.  Vango escapes by climbing the walls of the cathedral.  It becomes clear that Vango has a mysterious past and isn't just being paranoid (as so many accuse him of being), he really does have people who are out to get him.  Many fascinating characters, good and bad are a part of Vango’s story.

I loved this book.  Vango is a great character who is kind to everyone and it’s easy to sympathize with his orphan life.  The setting changes to different places throughout Europe and many different side stories come together in a connection to Vango.  I loved this quirky read and can’t wait to read the sequel.
